The European Union could “act quickly and firmly” in response to what it calls “unjustified” visa bans issued by the United States against five European individuals involved in combating digital hatred and disinformation, an EU official has said.
EU Officials Decry US Action as ‘Intimidation’
Officials from Europe including Emmanuel Macron accused the US administration of “coercion and intimidation”, after the visa restrictions were placed on figures that were at the heart of efforts to enact laws governing American tech companies.
“For far too long, European activists have led coordinated campaigns to pressure US companies to punish American viewpoints they oppose,” stated a senior US official in a social media post. “The current administration will no longer tolerate such actions of extraterritorial censorship.”

Germany, Spain, the UK and a chorus of EU officials joined France in condemning the move.
